FMH is connected to many popular Farm Management Software (FMS) brands for fast and seamless reporting. This means that data is sent directly from the farmer's FMS account to FMH systems, where it is stored and connected to their policy.
FMH has always taken data security very seriously. In today's data-driven world, we continue to put the latest security measures in place to ensure that data from both our policyholders and agents is safe. See some of our FAQs about data security:
Permission & Third-party Vendors
First, FMH will never sell or provide the data from our policyholders or agents to third-party vendors. Second, policyholders and agents must give FMH/their agent permission to access their precision data from their FMS. Most FMS only require a one-time permission grant, but this permission can be revoked by the farmer at any time.
How much farming data from precision equipment is used for crop insurance?
While precision equipment captures a variety of agronomic data, FMH’s precision reporting process only uses the required data for insurance and government reporting, which is the same information that is manually reported today. This includes crop, plant date, and acres planted for acreage; and wet-weight, moisture, harvest date, and acres harvested for production.
How does FMH store and protect precision data?
FMH stores precision data in our secure cyber system. We strive to implement a secure cyber system by following industry and regulatory standards. FMH has and continues to develop security polices based on internal and external risk assessments. From those policies, we choose processes and technologies to mitigate or control the risks, such as advanced firewall systems and encrypting sensitive data.
What about precision data that is delivered outside of an FMS, such as through a USB drive?
FMH handles and uploads precision data entirely in-house. Physical drives are then returned to the farmer or destroyed once the necessary data has been uploaded.
